Red Wine Stain Myths & Facts
A red wine stain, the worst stain. No stain is welcome, but certainly not a red wine stain. You are justing getting cozy with a large glass of red wine, and then the glass spills. Panic! Now what?
First of all: don't panic. Stay calm and think of the correct first step to take. Above all, do not listen to the many "advices and solutions" that are often mentioned, because that is where the danger is. Just to inform you right off: a red wine stain is in almost all cases no problem. So call Fast Clean 0191 4203500
A number of persistent myths and the true, corresponding facts.
Myths & Facts
Myth: Sprinkle salt on the stain. The salt will extract the wine and the stain disappears.
Fact: Salt fixates colours. There is a serious risk the salt will fixate the red colour into your carpet, rug or upholstery. Should this happen, the stain cannot be removed. The result of using salt is often an even darker red stain. Certainly a no go, but it is always good to call Fast Clean, since we do not know whether the stain has been fixated or not and the stain might still be removed completely.
Myth: Pour white wine onto the stain. This results in the removal of the red wine stain.
Fact: What you actually do is dillute the red wine. This could have been done, by figure of speach, with water. The problem is, next to the fact it is a waste of your white wine, it contains sugars. Sugars are a sticky residue that attract dirt, resulting in black spots in your carpet as time goes by. Rinsing with water is not a solution, as you will never be able to remove all the sugar yourself.
Myth: Pouring milk, beer, gin, etc. on the red wine stain will make it disappear.
Fact: You attempt to remove a stain by creating another. On clothing that might not be a problem, as they can go straight into the washing machine afterwards. However, that does not apply to your carpet or upholstery. In addition, the result is far from ideal.
Myth: A red wine stain can be removed using vinegar.
Fact: Using vinegar, you take the unnecessary risk of fixating the red colour into the yarn. Vinegar is an agressive product that will damage many carpets in the long run. Also, it has a very low pH value that may cause discolouration.
Myth: A steam cleaner can remove many stains, also red wine.
Fact: A steam cleaner works at temperatures of 90°C. This is also the temperature dyers use to fixate colours into the yarns. Thus, here you also run the risk of fixating the red colour into the yarn. When this happens, the damage cannot be undone. A steam cleaner, apposed to what the manufacturer may claim on the packaging or in commercials, is not suitable for cleaning carpet or upholstery.
The first step is very simple. In case of a fresh stain, take a white cotton cloth, hold it under the cold tap, wring it out and place it flat on the stain (do not use sparkling water, this does not help. Water has the cleaning ability, air bubbles do not transport dirt). Leave the cloth to dry completely, without peaking.
If the stain is still visible after this treatment? Leave the stain to dry completely, then call Fast Clean 0191 4203500 to remove the stain easily and effectively.
How To Remove A Coffee Stain
Coffee stains can be difficult to remove because a typical coffee spill creates what is known as a combination stain. Plain coffee has tannins that cause stains similar to a tea or wine spill, which can be difficult to clean by itself. However, if you add cream or milk to your coffee, you have a protein stain to deal with as well.
Regardless of the stain you need to take quick action. The faster you can treat the spillage, the better your chances are at removing the stain completely.
How To Remove Coffee Stains From Your Carpet
Before applying any type of cleaning solution or stain remover, attempt to remove as much liquid from your carpet as possible by blotting the area inside to outside with a clean cloth . Never rub at the stained area, as you may spread the stain into the fibers and even into the carpet pad.
Once the area is as liquid-free as possible, there are some different techniques you can try to remove the stain. Read the following steps to determine which one will work best for you:
Water and Dishwashing Liquid
Mix a cleaning solution of two cups water and two teaspoons dishwashing liquid. Then add the solution to a spray bottle then spray the effected area and lightly blot the stain with a clean cloth or sponge. Then spray lightly with plain water and continue blotting. Repeat this process until the stain has been fully removed.
Water and Baking Soda
Another option is to create a paste of one part water and one part baking soda. Apply the paste directly to the stain and work it in gently with your fingers. Then, spray the area lightly with water and blot to remove any excess baking soda.
Water and White Vinegar
One part water mixed with one part white vinegar can also successfully remove coffee stains. Once mixed, pour the solution into a spray bottle and spray directly onto the stained area. Then blot to lighten and remove the stain. Once the area has dried completely, you may want to sprinkle a layer of baking soda over the spot to soak up any lingering vinegar odor. Let the baking soda sit for about 20 minutes before vacuuming. You should be left with a perfectly clean carpet.

Wipe Your Pet’s Paws Off
You can prevent pets from putting grubby marks onto your carpets by wiping their paws off when they come in from out doors. Keep a towel close to the door. Your pet may not like this at first, but it is one of the best ways to keep your carpet clean. They will eventually understand that they will have to get their paws wiped off each time that they come into the house.
Add an Area Rug to the Room
An area rug will not only make the room look nice but it will also protect your carpet. You should put the area rug in a high-traffic area. You want to make sure that your pet spends most of their time on the area rug and not the carpet.
Use a Pet-Friendly Carpet Cleaner

How to Prepare a Property for Sale
When looking to sell a property of any kind, you should do everything you can to leave it in the condition you’d expect to be greeted by if you were stepping into a property you’d just purchased.
Cleaning the property to your own high standards is more than acceptable, if you are generally a clean and tidy person.
If you aren’t so clean and tidy, you might be wondering what the main things are that will help you to sell your property, whether it be a commercial property or a house.
5 Top Tips for Selling your Property
Below, we have listed 5 top tips for selling your property.
1. Clean the Carpets
One of the first things people will look at when they are looking to buy any type of property is the flooring. Flooring can be expensive to replace, meaning the chance of someone moving into a property with dirty, stained or damaged flooring is lessened.
Look for a local carpet cleaner to clean your carpets and upholstery for you. If you can get your carpets and flooring looking near to new again, you will go a long way towards selling your property faster.
2. Make it Sparkle
Cleaning your home should go beyond the usual daily and weekly cleaning jobs, even if you have to hire someone to do it. This should take a day or two to complete, so you might want to call in some help. At the very least, give yourself a weekend to thoroughly clean your property to make it sparkle.
Wash the windows, inside and out. Get hold of a pressure washer to clean outdoor areas, such as a driveway, car park, patio or decking. Polish mirrors. Hoover everywhere. Give the whole property a thorough dusting. Pay attention to bathroom and kitchen areas as these can have a massive impact on whether or not the property sells.
3. Make Minor Repairs
If you are well aware of small problems that might hinder the chance of selling the property, get them fixed ASAP. Whether it’s a dodgy gate, a cracked floor tile, a small leak of any kind or something completely different, take extra care to fix small problems and this will go a long way towards helping you sell.
Try your best to depersonalise the property (this applies more to house sales than the commercial side of things). Put away any personal photographs as buyers have a hard time looking past personal effects. You want to give buyers the opportunity to imagine themselves living in the property, rather than only being able to see what the property looks like for someone else.
5. Tidy Cupboards, Wardrobes etc.
Most people will open cupboards and wardrobes to assess what the space options are like. They’ll open the fridge, look under the stairs and probably have a real snoop about. Kitchen cupboards are especially popular for snoopers, so take the time to tidy the kitchen thoroughly.--------
